The
FIFA World Cup™ has come a long way since the first match was played in
1930 in Uruguay, but it still holds true to the same values. Held once every four
years, it is the largest single-event sporting spectacle in the world.
The last FIFA World Cup™ was set in Korea/Japan. Thirty-two teams representing the six continental confederations competed in the fierce battle for the world champion status and Brazil captured its fifth FIFA World Cup™ title. The
matches attracted an incredible 2.7 million spectators, with a further 28.8 billion
watching the televised games. In 2006, Germany is proud to host the 18th FIFA
World Cup™. |
