FINEPIX PRINTER NX-500

FUJIFILM INTRODUCES THE FINEPIX PRINTER NX-500
A New Digital Printing Option for Consumers at Home or on the Road

PMA 2000, LAS VEGAS, NV, February 3, 2000 - Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. today unveiled the new Fujifilm FinePix Printer NX-500, a portable and versatile desktop digital printing device that produces improved, 4 x 6-inch prints at 306 dpi in approximately two minutes.

The FinePix Printer NX-500 utilizes Fujifilm's refined Thermo-Autochrome printing technology, an environmentally friendly single sheet process that requires no inks, toners or ribbons and is similar to the technology used in conventional photography where the dyes are formed in the paper. To ensure accurate and rich color tones, the FinePix Printer NX-500's improved Compensation System automatically optimizes the data for each picture, while the High-Chroma Processing System uses direct mapping to convert all of a digital camera's RGB data to CMY data.

Fujifilm also made improvements to the special paper used by FinePix Printer NX-500 for printing. The new paper, which is backward compatible with the NX-70, the FinePix Printer NX-500's predecessor, allows for brighter whites and sharper colors, helping the FinePix Printer NX-500 generate vivid, eye-pleasing prints. And with the option to print on 2-, 4- or 16-cut sheets, users have a wide variety of output choices, including sticker prints, ID photos, greeting card images, customized calendar printing and more. Plus, users who have the Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) feature in their digital camera can automatically print a desired quantity of each image.

Like the NX-70, the FinePix Printer NX-500 has a footprint similar in size to a laptop computer (10.6" W x 3.1" H x 11.4" D). For prints, images captured by digital cameras and saved on removable SmartMedia? storage cards can be transferred directly to the FinePix Printer NX-500 through its SmartMedia card drop-in slot, thus eliminating the need for a computer. However, if the user would like to print images stored on a computer, they can do so using the FinePix Printer NX-500's USB port and not interfering with other printers or peripherals.

"The Fujifilm FinePix Printer NX-500 provides consumers with the print quality they now demand from digital photography." said Darin Pepple, Product Manager, Consumer Products, Digital Imaging Division, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. "The FinePix Printer NX-500 picks up where the NX-70 left off, allowing consumers to print their digital images quickly and easily using a computer or a television. But the FinePix Printer NX-500 has a leg up on its predecessor by producing clearer, more colorful images while not having the fade and smudge problems associated with inkjet image printing."

The Fujifilm FinePix Printer NX-500 will be available May 2000 for a suggested retail price of $299. Twenty-sheet packs of the special Thermo-Autochrome paper used with the FinePix Printer NX-500 along with 10-sheet sticker print packs will be sold alongside the printer at a price of $15.00.
