Detail of the update

The firmware update (Ver.1.01 to Ver.1.02) incorporates the following issue.

An issue that, in some rare circumstances, caused the battery indicator to blink, regardless of actual battery charge, has been resolved.

The firmware update (Ver.1.00 to Ver.1.01) incorporates the following improvements.

1. Upgrade of Image Quality Setting.
   The following functions are added and activated in [RAW] menu(*1) for [QUALITY].
   • Recording with TIFF-RGB format.
   • Playback of images recorded by IS Pro with TIFF-RGB format.

2. Better image quality of "live" view when using Hyper-Utility software HS-V3(*2) or HS-V3 UP(*2)

*1  When TIFF-RGB format is selected , Image quality displayed on Control panel is "RAW".
*2  IS Pro optional products in which recording with TIFF-RGB format is not available when using 'Shoot from PC function'.

Precaution

1. If firmware upgrading fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases.
    Carefully read the notes provided here.
2. Always use the AC adapter or the full charged battery NP-150 when upgrading the firmware.
    Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.
3. Firmware upgrading takes approximately 1 minute.
4. Once the firmware has been upgraded, the previous current cannot be restored.

1.Preparation
a.Prepare the target digital camera.

IS Pro (up to Version 1.01)

b.Prepare the media.
The firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted media.
Refer to the IS Pro Owner's Manual (P35 or P179) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
Note that formatting the media will erase all data on the card, including protected files.
Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.

c.Prepare the power supply.
Use the full charged battery NP-150 or AC adapter AC-135VN (sold separately) with your camera ready.

d.Prepare the USB cable.
Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.



2.Firmware version checking procedure
Turn on your camera , press the [SETUP] button, choose the [MAINTENANCE] menu and then choose the [FIRMWARE VERSION] menu.
[VERSION NO.] on the display means the actual firmware version in your camera.

After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.


3.Downloading the firmware upgrade
Read the firmware upgrade user license agreement and agree to the terms before downloading the upgrade.

4. Firmware upgrading procedure
a. Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program.

You can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.

•Windows PC users

Downloaded files must be put on desk top.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware upgrade file again.


•Macintosh users

File name FPUPDATETRF.dmg  
File size 2,621,440 bytes  

Downloaded files must be put on desk top.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware upgrade file again.
Double-Click "FPUPDATETRF.DMG" to make a new folder that includes "FPUPDATETRF".
Move "FPUPDATETRF" in the new folder onto desk top.


b.Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the media.
  (The data is copied without generating a folder.)

The software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
Always use the AC adapter or rechargeable battery NP-150 when upgrading the firmware.

•Windows PC users/Macintosh users
1. Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except a mouse.
2. Connect the camera to the PC.
 * Refer to the IS Pro Owner's Manual (p.194) for more information on connecting the camera.
If FinePix Viewer were activated automatically, you should inactivate it.

3. Double-click the "FPUpdete.exe", the "FPUpdeteV.exe" or the "FPUDATATRF" file on desk top.
  Click the [OK] button on the window.

4. Click the [Exit] button on the window.

5. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the Media.


c. Turn the camera on.
Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected.
When the screen shown above appears, press the [OK] button.

Press the [left button] to select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.
Press the [OK] button.
The firmware is then upgraded.


Firmware upgrading takes about 1 minute.  
When the screen shown above appears, the firmware upgrade has been successfully completed.

d.Check the upgraded firmware.
Turn the camera off and turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button again.
Check the firmware version on the LCD display.
The media used for the firmware upgrade should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.

6.How to use the new added function (recording with TIFF-RGB format)

a. Set the TIFF-RGB recording mode in the [SHOOTING MENU].

Open the [Quality menu] menu under the [SHOOTING MENU].
Select the [RAW] and then select the desired TIFF quality.



The "RAW" indicates TIFF-RGB recording mode in the control panel.


If the image quality of "TIFF L", "TIFF M" or "TIFF S" is selected,
the "RAW" indicates TIFF-RGB recording mode in the control panel.




* Limitations of TIFF-RGB recording mode.
•The "Save Image Wizard" of "FinePixViewer" cannot handle TIFF-RGB image files.
  Use a memory card reader to get TIFF-RGB image files from the memory card.
•The "TIFF-RGB recording mode" cannot be used from HS-V3 S5 Pro PC SHOOTING plug-in.
  (S5 Pro PC SHOOTING plug-in is compatible with IS Pro.)
•The "MASKING" settings of "FILE TAG OPTIONS" does not work.
•Multiple exposure shooting cannot be performed.
•The TIFF-RGB image files cannot be cropped.
•The TIFF-RGB image files cannot be printed with PictBridge.
•The TIFF-RGB image files cannot be displayed with non-IS Pro cameras.
